Greetings, my name is Kim and I am morbidly obese. There, I said it. Really not easy to do, when you have been obese all your life. I can see it in my kindergarten photos and all the way to present times; I have always been a big girl.
I have finally made the decision to stop being in denial and start permanently correcting the years of damage I have done to my body. Why now, you ask? Well, after a visit with my doctor, she looked me right in the eyes and said, "Your body is killing you, quicker than you think." I knew right there and then I needed to do something. I've got a lot of stuff I still want to accomplish in my life and I going to start with losing weight with gastric bypass surgery.
I am so psyched for this "big" journey. I started the process a couple of months ago. Meeting with the surgeon, watching videos, going to an info meeting, meeting my dietician, baratric nurse and the fine people in the insurance department, upper GI, and psychological evaluation. I have 2 more classes to attend and then I just wait for the insurance company's blessing (which actually won't be a problem) and then I schedule surgery.
But, my "big" stumbling block is with my finances. I have to pay off what is left on my deductible, some out of pocket and a co-pay, to the hospital before I can have the surgery. YIKES! So, with much hesitation and humility I've come to you all for help. It's a "big" number, but the reward is "bigger" than anyone, even I, can imagine.
I know that there are people out there that say, do this diet or try this or you just need to get more excercise. For someone in my position, it's just not that simple. Programs like this one I'm in exists for people who need this option and screen out the people who don't. I have not been screened out. I need this. The program that I am in has tons of support (nutritionists, dieticians, even the surgeon, and a membership the the hospitals fitness center etc). And of course there is the love and support of my amazing husband. It won't be easy (nothing ever is), but I know deep in my heart that I can do this.
