Project Walk Rehab Therapy

Donation protected
Once I had my daughter and then my son, the want and desire to be better and do better was overwhelming. I want to do better for them, you could say they lit a fire under me to get out there and make things happen. I decided it was better late than never to get the therapy I need/want to hopefully reach my goal of being able to run and play with my kids. It didn't really hit me until my 3 year old daughter asked me "Why mommy didn't walk?" My goal now is to do better than just go through the motions, do better for them, do better for myself, which in the long run will allow me to have more years of life with them if I can get myself into better overall health.

My name is Kim, I am a 30 (almost 31) who has been living with a spinal cord injury for 14 years. When I was 16, I was on a yearly camping trip with my family (which we have done since I was born), I was riding an ATC when I was involved in an accident which left me paralyzed from the chest down, I am T4/T5 complete paraplegic. Luckily it was only myself who was physically harmed in this incident. I went to Shriner's children's hospital for 1 month of intensive therapy and returned home to complete my senior year of high school. I struggled when I got home and without my family and friends I do not imagine I would be where I am today. I met my husband a year after my accident, we married and had two wonderful kids, who are now 4 and 2 years old. Since I came home from Shriner's I have been going through the motions of being a disabled individual and never really thought therapy was for me, boy was I wrong!

Project Walk has a wonderful program and a new location in Claremont California that I wish to be part of. I am not generally one who reaches out for help, some might even call me stubborn but I know that there are a lot of great people in this world and am hoping some will want to help me. My goal may seem high but the therapy is expensive, my goal is to raise enough to be able to do 2 years of therapy, 4 times a month, with each session being 3 hours long.

I am beyond grateful for any donations I get and I hope that one day I can pay it forward. This video is a little bit of insight into what my goal is and the facilty I wish to be a part of.
