Shortly after the birth of Kimberly's 3rd child, she expereinced numbness on the right side of her body and promptly went to the Emergency Room. They did an EKG and a CT scan. They found a growth on her Thyroid, which turned out to be non-cancerous. After several doctor visits, tests, Kim was diagnosed with Chiari. (kee-AR-ee)
Chiari I malformation (CM) is a congenital or acquired (rare) malformation in which the back compartment of the skull is too small, resulting in crowding of neurological tissues. The lower part of the cerebellum, called the cerebellar tonsils, hangs down through the opening at the bottom of the skull, preventing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from flowing freely into the spinal canal.
There is no cure for Chiari and those that live with this disease, experience neck pain, balance problems, muscle weakness, numbness or other abnormal feelings in the arms or legs, dizziness, vision problems, difficulty swallowing, ringing or buzzing in the ears, hearing loss, vomiting, insomnia, depression, or headache made worse by coughing or straining. Hand coordination and fine motor skills may be affected.
Kim and Josh are currently in Rhode Island meeting with a specialist. She is in very good hands. However Kim will most likely need surgery. There are still more tests to be done to figure out exactly what course of action is best. The money raised here will go to their family to help with travel costs as these specialist are outside of Utah and medical bills. Kim and Josh have 3 young children. Ages 8,5, and 5 months.
Kim is my person. A safe place to always be myself. She has supported and often times carried me in my darkest hours and I know to many others as well. She has the greatest faith of anyone I know and is a light to all around her.
If you know them, you know they are kind, loving outstanding people. I have known them to be loyal and true friends and always first to serve those around them. Helping them with the financial side of things would greatly lift their burdens at this time. We would be forever thankful to you for helping.
