SF Delegation to the Border

Hi, my name is Kimberly, I am raising money for a small group of Community Leaders from the Bay Area to travel down to the border of California and Tijuana to take part in the Border Angels Caravan of Love. This trip will allow us to see first hand the devastating impact that the "Remain in Mexico" policy has on migrant families who are forced to live in overcrowded, under resourced shelters in one of the most dangerous cities in the world while awaiting asylum hearings.  Our intention is to return to the Bay Area with a stronger understanding of our responsibility in this fight and an urgency to use our collective resources to impact change. 

We will fill our cars full of donations and caravan down to San Diego over the weekend of January 10, 11 and 12. While there we will deliver the donations to the migrant shelters that Border Angels sponsors. We will also work in San Diego doing outreach with Southern California Border Angels chapter teams.  Your donation will help cover the cost for our transportation and necessities during the trip. 

The Border Angels Caravan of Love program is especially close to my heart because I am a refugee.  My mother and I immigrated from Honduras over 20 years ago and I vividly remember being in Mexico and receiving a small goodie bag with necessities like toothpaste and socks. These donations helped us survive, gave us hope and showed us how compassionate Americans can be. These acts of kindness by volunteers at the border overjoyed me so much that it distracted me from the overwhelming mental and physical strain of migrating. My mom and I have never taken our lives in America for granted and always strive to give back to the local Latinx communities. The helping hands during our journey blessed our family, and now I have an opportunity to do something to give back.
