#KimBeacham..NoOneFightsAlone

Donation protected
Our family member, Kim Beacham, has recently been diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia). She was admitted to the hospital Tuesday, February 27th
where she was diagnosed and immediately began treatment to fight this sneaky and rapid-progressing type of leukemia. Her family, though devastated by the news, are hopeful in God and her strength of character to fight this horrible disease.

ALL is a cancer that starts from the early version of white blood cells called lymphocytes in the bone marrow. Leukemia cells usually invade the blood fairly quickly and then spread to other parts of the body including the lymph nodes, liver, spleen, and spinal cord, to name a few. The term “acute” mean that the luekimia can progress quickly, and if untreated, would probably be fatal in just a few months. “Lymphocytic” means it develops from early forms of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. The main treatment for ALL in adults is the long term use of chemotherapy.

Since being admitted, Kim has received her first treatment out of many, many to come. She will undergo chemo for a week, every three weeks for 6 months. Each treatment requires a week long hospital stay. When she isn’t in the hospital she will be going to the Leo Jenkins Center twice a week for therapy along with having to take a $500 pill twice a week. She currently is having to stay in the hospital for a total of a month. The usual time from diagnosis to remission and being back to normal is 2 years. She will not be able to work during this time. Thus, greatly diminishing her family’s available income for everyday life expenses. Though there are outlets and medical coverage for some things, as you can imagine that coverage stops somewhere and doesn’t cover all treatments necessary for recovery.

We are asking for donations to help fill these gaps in coverage. This disease has a good success rate if treatment is followed properly. No one should have to choose between living and the cost of treatment. ALL has a capability of moving rapidly where some people don’t have time to even treat it. We are very blessed that Kim was able to receive a relatively quick diagnosis and we are praying for a quick recovery. The road ahead is long and expensive and we are asking for your help.

Thank you for all your love, support, prayers, and donations,

Dawn Peaden, Dennis Butts, and family.
