Kim's treatment

Many people have helped Kim since her diagnosis of bowel cancer in June and we know that she'd like to thank all of you for your loving wishes, gifts in all shapes and sizes and offers of help.

We are old school friends of Kim and this page is a response to the many of you who have asked if you can help Kim further.

Gillian writes....."Kim has been my best friend since Primary 6 when I joined a new school mid way through the year. We quickly became firm friends and ‘Kool Kim’ and I have shared many adventures and interests since. From skateboarding, hockey and badminton, and looking after the gerbils, mice and rats in the science block (this was more fun than it sounds) in our school days, to nightclubs and socialising in Uni days (say no more). Not to mention our love of music. Well, choir and band practice aside we love attending concerts (Smashing Pumpkins, Lenny Kravitz, Kylie to name a few)... Kim and I even had a spell trying to teach ourselves guitar!

As a really solid group of 4 friends (Kim, Claire, Ellie and I), we have had so many happy holidays; away ‘camping’ in Aberdeenshire, to luxury stays in Craigendarroch that we’ve been lucky enough to enjoy, to stays with Kim in Paris in her numerous abodes. Wine may have featured regularly, as did karaoke, and walks and chats – but never yoga (in-joke).

Even in our times of struggle (many in all our cases over the years), we have always found laughter and giggles – and the occasional tear. Graduations, weddings, separations, kids, grief, money worries... it’s all there, but we’ve been so, so lucky to have each other throughout.

Kim is amazingly intelligent (first class honours kind of gives this away), not to mention amazingly talented and creative (art work that is sooo unique and detailed, you wouldn’t believe). Along with having had more home moves than anyone else I know, Kim has also had more careers too. Languages have always been of interest and her fluent French, and Spanish abilities have seen her as a teacher and sharing her knowledge in class (TEFL in Paris) and more recently in 1-2-1 situations as a tutor. Have I mentioned this girl can cook! She was a chef in Paris for goodness sake! She can turn her hand to anything, and along with her amazing and funny, caring husband David, she now runs a successful pet food business in Aboyne. Anyway, many and varied is my point, and not without struggle – but she is one of the strongest people I know is our Kim. Determined, resilient, and I admire her spirit!

Kim is someone I can always turn to. She knows me. Even though we don’t see each other frequently, we talk. She always offers her time and help, and a willing, listening ear – a sympathetic reply, and also a ‘just get on with it’ type response when it’s needed!! Truth, honesty and loyalty that’s what friends are for, right?

Well. What a blow to hear Kim’s diagnosis. What a blow to hear that she’s suffering, and in this current pandemic and all the complications that brings in itself. Kim has great family support in her parents, her brother and sister and her 4 beautiful nieces, and a loving husband and 2 beautiful dogs....but we ALL want to help.

‘Stage 4 bowel cancer’ she tell us incredulously ‘...there is no stage 5’!!!!!! ‘Things are not looking good’ she says...

She admits to being scared, as we all are. However SHE is scared for the people she would leave behind. Scared about her own suffering too I have no doubt, but more for others.

But she’s young. The surgery was a success. They got the whole tumour from the bowel. The liver’s (assumed) METS are hoped will respond to Chemo, and hopefully we can have our Kimbo back;  happy, funny, clever, talented and ready for more life experiences.... she has so much more to give and life to live. "

So. The treatment required is *insert details when known including sum required*- we have already been promised/pledged half that amount . If we are fortunate enough to raise more than this sum, it will go towards complementary therapies for Kim . We all feel it could offer our friend a better chance at coming through this. It has been approved by her oncologist and money is the only hurdle. We implore you, if you have any amount you’d be able to contribute; small, large, one off, regular payments would be hugely useful, and appreciated. Not only helping Kim, but helping further our knowledge and research in Cancer – we ALL know someone affected.

Gillian is running  Pilates classes again, and aim for the payments to go directly to this crowd fund account...

If you would like to contribute - either anonymously or with your name - the details are below. We know that people’s budgets are tight in the current climate and so many of you have given a great deal already in love and practical support, so please do not feel any obligation. We are opening this page only because we have had so many requests to do so.

Thank you again for the care, support and friendship you have given Kim since June.
