Kim's Breath of Life

My wife Kelly and I are initiating this fundraising effort for our kindhearted friend Kim in South Carolina.  Kim is our son Jonah’s birth grandmother and has been thoughtful and generous over the years not only with Jonah, but also our daughters Noelle and Holland.  We consider Kim family.  Although Kim is only in her mid-fifties, she has been diagnosed with a devastating hereditary lung disease which has evolved in to full-blown COPD.  Her doctor has told her that she only has another 2 years to live without drastic measures, such as a lung transplant.  The problem is that Kim cannot even get on the waiting list for a lung transplant because she doesn’t weigh enough.  She is currently down to about 80 pounds as a result of her lungs working so hard and because the medication she is taking to stay alive has ruined her teeth (typical side effect) and she has difficulty eating.  Kim is in need of dentures so that she can eat to put the weight back on she needs to be eligible for the lung transplant wait list. The dentures cost $4,100.  However, Kim does not have this money and her insurance will not cover it because they consider it “cosmetic.”
