Kim Needs Our Help

Donation protected
Many of you remember Kim McAvoy from J’s Crab Shack. I met Kim about 5 years ago and she made the introduction that led to the beginning of live music at J’s. Lots of good music was made and good friendships formed on those Thursday and Saturday nights, and Kim was “instrumental” in making that happen! Kim was a sharp bar manager with a sharp wit and a warm heart and we have remained friends. Not too long ago, she moved to Michigan to be closer to her father, in his older years. Always a very hard worker, Kim has been paying her rent and bills by cleaning and organizing people’s homes.

Kim is going through some very tough times right now and she needs our help. Long time stomach issues, which she thought were food allergies, turned out to be a slow growing cancer called neuroendocrine carcinoid. This past August, she underwent surgery, during which an unexpectedly large amount of cancer was removed from her intestines. Following surgery, Kim went through a period of increasing and excruciating pain. By the time she got to the hospital, the situation was critical. She went through another surgery, where they found her intestine had been perforated. Unfortunately, she had to undergo a colostomy. The good news is, this is temporary and will be reversed in December. She will have more information on her prognosis toward the end of October. This slow-growing cancer is likely to be a recurring problem, but hopefully one that can be managed.

Asking for help is not a comfortable thing for Kim. She works hard to support herself, even when times are hard. There will be a period of time when Kim will be unable to work; perhaps 4 months. She says she needs only $2,000 to carry her through, but I think this is an underestimation. She knows very few people in the rural area of Michigan where she is living, so I’m hoping we can help her out from here. If you remember Kim, if she ever poured you a drink or baked you a cake, or even if you’ve never met her, but enjoyed music at J’s Crab Shack with Liviu Pop and the amazing music he brought on Thursday nights, and continues to bring to Black Eyed Sally’s, please donate. Any amount will help and will be appreciated more than you will ever know.
