Kim Davis is a friend to many, and those of us who know her adore her and her family. We also know that Kim was in the fight of her life just two years ago when she was diagnosed and treated for Stage IV Hodgkin Lymphoma and was at death’s door. By the grace of
God, with all of the prayers and help from family and friends, Kim beat her odds and had her last chemo treatment on 10/13/2015. Kim's cancer is back and the fight is on once again. Kim refused to let anyone start a “Go Fund Me,” the first time she had treatment. She did not want to burden anyone and already felt so many humbling blessings from her family, friends and community.
For those of you who do not know, even with insurance, cancer is expensive.  The drugs used in a chemotherapy cocktail and also the drugs to treat the horrendous side effects of chemotherapy, cost an average of $10,000 per month, with some therapies topping $30,000 per month ( American Society of Clinical Oncology). Just a decade ago, the average cost per month was about $4,500. Patients typically pay 20 to 30 percent out of pocket for drugs, so an average years’ worth of drugs would cost $24,000 to $36,000 in addition to health insurance premiums. That is just the prescription drug costs, not included is all the lab work, imaging scans, provider and facility costs, just to name a few, so you can understand the amount of financial pressure a patient and their families experience. Not only are there worries for the cost of treatment, but the
Davis's lost 50% of their family income and have not had enough timeto recover from that financial setback before Kim's cancer returned. Who can afford to get sick? We are all sometimes an illness or an
accident away from losing everything we have worked for. However, losing a loved one is far worse, so we fight and try not to worry about the financial devastation.                  Kim is allowing me to do a, “Go Fund Me,” this time for a reason; they need the help to make it. In order to pay for the medical bills from the first diagnosis, they have not replaced their broken furnace and have no heat. Going through another round of treatments with no heat is something the Davis’ cannot ignore.
`     For those who do not know Kim Davis personally, I would like to introduce you to her. Kim is a resident of Puyallup, Washington for over 30 years and has worked for Cascade Christian Schools andPuyallup School District for a combined total of 28 years.
Kim and her husband Forrest have been foster parents to over 20 children over the years, including their two adopted sons, Damon and Darius. They also have a biological daughter, Abby.
The Davis's have been a family of givers to their community, local school districts, the foster system and countless family and friends. A lot of people are asking them, friends and family how they can help, so having a, “Go Fund Me,’ is the best option we know. We are asking our friends, family and community to show Kim and her family some love and help out any way you can. There is also a Meal Train set up that you can participate in, ‘Meal Train for The Davis Family,’ at mealtrain.com
