Medical resources for Kilu'ufi Hospital

Donation protected
In November we will be completing our first-year medical elective at Kilu'ufi Hospital in Solomon Islands. It is a 150-bed hospital with five wards and is staffed by only three doctors. Although it is the second largest hospital in Solomon Islands, Kilu'ufi is still under-developed and poorly resourced. There are recurrent staffing issues (including a recent nurses strike in June this year) and only basic medications are available. The hospital is poorly equipped for emergency situations, often relying on an infrequent ferry service to transport patients to the National Referral Hospital in Honiara.

We would like to purchase medical supplies for the hospital to show our appreciation for their hospitality and teaching. Unfortunately, such equipment is expensive and (as poor medical students) we are unable to meet the costs ourselves. For this reason, we would be extremely grateful for any donations (great or small!) from family and friends (strangers, enemies ....). We hope to meet our goal by the end of October so that we can purchase the supplies before we leave for the Solomons.

The money we raise will go towards items such as an ECG machine, medication, suction equipment and other basic medical supplies.

Thank you for your generosity!
Mitch, Ricky, Nikita and Libby
