Killed Will, Cure Isobel

Donation protected
On September 06, 2017, my mom went to the hospital for what was believed to be a kidney stone. Upon admission, they discovered her left kidney was enlarged and there were lesions on her lungs. Thursday morning, September 07, they informed us they saw a tumor in her left kidney and we needed to see a urologist. At 10 am, on September 08, we found out the diagnosis: Kidney Cancer. Stage 4 Kidney Cancer 8 days after her 50th birthday. The tumor had encased her left kidney, had moved into the inferior Vena Cava, and her liver. We named the tumor on her kidney William.

On Tuesday, September 26, Mom went into surgery to cut off the blood supply to the kidney, killing both the kidney and William in the process. Thursday, September 28, she went into surgery again to remove the entire kidney, the tumor from the liver, and clean out the Vena Cava.
We still have yet to see an oncologist to determine what we will do about the lesions on her lungs that they have, indeed, deemed cancerous.

At the time of the diagnosis, and currently, she doesn’t have insurance. Each copay for the specialists (urologist, vascular surgeon, and heart specialist) was $200 upon entering the building. Being an only child, I have taken a leave from work to tend to my mother beginning on the date of the diagnosis. While there are programs to help her once paperwork is fully submitted, we are still paying for the copays and prescriptions out of pocket along with maintaining our household and raising my 6 year old son, Evan, who adores his Gam more than anything. We are doing our best to keep this unstable and terrifying time as normal for him as we can.

Our journey isn’t over, and while my mother is the most prideful person I have ever known, it is time to ask for help when it is needed. No one ever expects a cancer diagnosis, that goes for us as well.
I want to ensure that during this time of devastation and crisis that she can receive the medical attention, prescriptions, treatments, supplies, and necessities, needed to endure this battle.

If you can not donate, you can help us just the same by spreading awareness. My mom is the strongest, kindest, most loyal, and strong willed, person I have ever known. Being with her is the biggest blessing I could ask for at this time. We killed Will, now we cure Isobel.
