KIKI TAKES GHANA 2018!

Donation protected
Peace to you all! My name is Chiara (Kiki) Metellus, and I am currently a third year undergraduate student at California State University, Long Beach majoring in Communication Studies and minoring in Marketing. Through leadership and service, I currently serve as the President for the Black Student Union (@csulb.bsu), a Residents Assitant in Housing and Residential Life, and a member of the University Honors Program.

Since my freshman year, I have been interested in attending the Alternative Spring Break Ghana Howard/Long Beach Program, and now, with your help, I will finally have the opportunity to do so! As a full-time student, activist, community organizer, and leader, it is imperative for me to lead in African centered thought and traditions, always. What better way than to do that by fully imersing myself in African culture and visiting it first hand? Aside being able to expand my traveling endeavors, going to Ghana this summer will allow me to grow in my personal development and learn more about African culture, history and how I am connected to those two things individually. I aspire to own my own business one day and plan to become more well rounded in business affairs in areas outside of the states beginning with Ghana.

Details about the trip: CSU Long Beach and Howard University are teaming up for a study abroad program in Ghana, West Africa, focusing on international service learning and cultural immersion. The program creates opportunities for global engagment to address issues of poverty, equity and access to education in the U.S. and Ghana. Aside from tours and lectures, we'll be experiencing Ghanain art, craftsmanship, music, literature, drum and dance at the University of Ghana, Legon. Lastly, we're promoting global literacy by raising funds and book donations to build and attain library resources and school supplies for partner schools in Ghana. Upon return, we'll do campus presentations to share impact of trip on our development as leaders and professionals! Our group will set out to Washington, D.C. and head to Ghana from there towards the end of May and will return in the beginning of June. The trip will last a total of 16 days where we will visit places such as the Elmina & Cape Coast "Castles" (preserved slave dungeons), W.E.B. DuBois Memorial Centre for Pan African Culture, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the Marcus Garvey Center, local youth schools, and more!
The first payment for the trip is due the 2nd week in January of $1500, and the rest will be due in May. I am asking for your support, guidance, tips, shares, prayers-- ALL OF THE ABOVE to help get me to Ghana this summer! Every single donation I receive is an investment in my overall college experience and me, and I hope YOU see it just the same.

Thank you in advance! Your contribution means more to me than you know.
