KIHEFO Youth Development Farm

Donation protected
As many of my friends and family know, I have spent the past two months living and working in Kabale, Uganda, as an intern with the Kigezi Healthcare Foundation (KIHEFO). KIHEFO serves the citizens of Kabale, Uganda with the mission of fighting disease, poverty and ignorance using integrated, sustainable and innovative approaches. An offshoot of KIHEFO's community development initiatives, The Sisbro Organic Farmers Project focuses on engaging youth living in the Kabasheeshe village of Southwestern Uganda, specifically connecting teenage mothers to job development training. Uganda has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Sub-Saharan Africa, at 43%. In Uganda, 10,000 girls leave school annually due to teenage pregnancy. As of 2014 18.7% of girls aged 15-18 years old gave birth in Ankole District, where Kabasheeshe is located.

The job and skills trainings provided by Sisbro currently include:
Crop growing
Raised bed and sack garden building
Rabbit keeping
Local drip irrigation
Compost building
Marketing crops

With additional funds, Sisbro hopes to expand to include the following trainings:
Goat rearing
Chicken rearing
Piggery
A demonstration garden to teach larger parties

Sisbro addresses the challenges of poverty, famine, malnutrition, ignorance, and enables youth and teenage mothers to attain their basic needs. Your donations will allow involved adolescents to generate income and acquire vocational skills, empowering them to build their own farms after acquiring their own lands either through inheritance or purchasing. Thank you so much for your time and donations!
