Kierlyn Lemon NICU Stay
Kierlyn Camilla Lemon, Born 5:09 AM, December 12th. She was born at 36 weeks and was 6lbs 9oz.
During delivery Kierlyn's O2 SAT started dropping into critical levels. Eventually I had to be cut to get baby out where she was immediately taken to the NICU. I was also rushed down to the ICU and both Baby and I were placed on a ventilator. While I was sedated and in recovery Kierlyn was flown to Nationwide in Columbus, OH to undergo a critical cold treatment therapy in an attempt to mitigate any possible brain damage and allow for as much healing as possible.
During the treatment she started experiencing seizures and had to be placed on medication and monitoring. After 96 hours of cold therapy a preliminary MRI showed moderate levels of brain damage to various portions of the brain but nothing that would explain the low muscle tone, inability to breathe, inability to swallow, etc. Because of this they started a broad genetics study to determine what else could be the possible cause for some of the complications Kierlyn was experiencing. This study could take anywhere from 10-15 weeks. During the Christmas holiday they attempted to run a CPAP over the vent. During this test Kierlyn decided to stop breathing completely for around 4 hours and after this test they decided to run another genetic test specifically for MD. Trenton and I are anxiously awaiting any news on what is wrong with little Kierlyn.
During the first few weeks of January the hospital will begin treating Kierlyn for clubbed feet and Hip Dysplasia. In the meantime we are still hoping and praying she will be able to overcome the ventilator and feeding tube. As it stands we are being told she may be in the NICU for 3-6 months. The Average cost of a NICU stay is $3,000 per day and we are hoping for any help. All help is much appreciated and all prayers are welcome.
