Hello there! To those who don't know me personally, my name is Kieran Kolo'ki- I'm a 21 year old queer, trans, non-binary, mixed indigenous (Miwok), full time art education student and part time retail worker who is financially supporting myself and living with my dear partner in San Francisco.
It's taken me some time to post this as I have quite a lot of shame built up around asking for help, especially financially- but here we are. I'll be undergoing top surgery on January 15th, 2019 and was approved by my insurance to cover the actual surgical procedure. However, the anesthesiologist fee and the surgeon's fee comes out to $6,000 out of pocket. I will be able to cover a portion of this fee from my own savings, working/ putting away money in the upcoming months, and from a previous generous contribution to my surgery fund.
These combined will cover around half of my expenses.
However, I would be unspeakably grateful for any additional assistance with covering the rest of the fees, alongside my rent, and other living expenses from the month I will be out of work in recovery, and supplies for recovery (bandages, medications etc).
To family or friends who may not understand why I'll be undergoing this procedure- The amount of physical and mental pain that chest dysphoria causes me affects me in an incredibly heavy way on a day to day basis. I've been binding my chest daily for nearly five years, something that, while lifesaving mentally, has had extremely negative effects on my back, chest, and ribs. Being able to have the chance to live my life in a body that reflects my truest self is more meaningful to me than I can possibly put in to words.
I'd like to be transparent as possible, so if there's any questions I can answer for donators, or anything I can offer in return, (art prints, clothes, housework, hugs) please don't hesitate to let me know. Again, from the bottom of my heart I am incredibly grateful to anyone who would offer me with assistance. Any dollar or signal boost you could pass my way would mean the absolute world to me.
