KidWind Finals In New Orleans

The four young gentlemen involved in this project are Finley Blakeney-Lorenz, Jayden Shilley, Misa Vicente and Clayton Williams. They have the honor of winning 1st place in the most recent KidWind Competition held in Ellensburg, Washington. This win qualifies "The Hurricanes" for the national competition in New Orleans, Louisiana. This is not an accomplishment that comes easily. The project required each team to achieve above average engineering, interview and record keeping feats. It is very important to note that this competition was comprised of students from 4th-8th grade. Ultimately the competition was won by the underdog 4th grade team from Mt Stuart Elementary School.
The judges in this competition citied that The Hurricanes 1st place win was due to their extraordinary ability to work as a team and not try to trump each other as being the star performer. The first place wind turbine that was engineered by this awesome quartet was built in a public school by the guidance of their adviser, Mr. Paul Coppin. Mr. Coppin and The Hurricanes competed against Seattle Preparatory School and other specialized schools in the final stages of this competition to take the first place trophy. These four young men and their adviser won with intellect, teamwork and an unexpected passion for engineering a wind turbine.
Winning this competition allows for advancement to the National Finals in New Orleans. All donations will pay for travel expenses for The Hurricanes, Mr. Coppin and some parents to travel to the finals. All four of these kids come from honest hard working families that would love to see The Hurricanes compete with more privileged students that are expected to be at the national competition. They have already proven this ability.
