Kids School Supplies after Fires

Starting on Monday, October 9th families in Northern California have been facing devastation. Lives have been lost, homes have been lost, all at the cost of these wildfires. In San Rafael we have been fortunate enough to only be faced with unhealthy air quality, but school is now closed for the time being. As a first grade classroom teacher in Marin California I know how important it is for children to be at school and have a safe environment to grow and learn. Many children in Sonoma, Napa, and Santa Rosa have lost everything as well as their safe place at school. Teachers at our elementary school (Dixie Elementary in Lucas Valley) are putting together backpacks with school supplies for these students in Santa Rosa, Sonoma, and Napa. We need all the help we can get to purchase the following items: backpacks, pencils, crayons, spiral notebooks, markers, and pencil sharpeners. With this $5,000 we are able to purchase and put together 50 school backpacks. Once we are able to raise funds we will be withdrawling the funds to buy these items from Amazon and Target. With any extra money we are lucky enough to get, we will purchase lunch boxes and reusable water bottles for the students as per requested by these families in need. We will be transferring these backpacks straight to organizations that work with Santa Rosa, Napa, and Sonoma school districts who are bringing them to children. Once we are able to meet our goal we hope to put as many backpacks together as possible- with the hopes to bring these to students by Wednesday, October 18th.  Any help is greatly appreciated as we all navigate through this horrific event.
