Kids Bringing This Old Car to Life!

Tax deductible
I remember rebuilding the motor in my car when I was just sixteen. I did it in my backyard with the help of my stepdad and a neighbor. The night that it started up and the engine came to life, I felt such joy and accomplishment. That would be the first of dozens of motors I would build and rebuild in my life.

As part of our youth foundation (kymalife.com), it has long been a dream of mine to find an old classic car, and restoring it to its original glory with the help of teenagers, teaching them some basic mechanic skills, while teaching them about life skills in the process. When you think about it, you can learn so much about life itself through cars. There are so many important life principles we can learn through restoring an old car. For example, while a motor has several filters, an air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, etc. What are the purposes for these filters? That’s simple! It’s to keep the unwanted junk out of the engine. That prompts us to ask, “What filters do we have to keep junk out of our lives?”

As we began to pray for God to provide us with an opportunity to do such a project, he led us to this car. A 1964 Chevy El Camino that needs a lot of work. We have seven teenagers signed up for the project, and they have already begun the disassembly process. Our hope is that we can raise enough funds to pay off the car ($5,000.00), and to properly restore the car to near original condition ($15,000.00). Once completed, the car will be used to showcase the kids’ handiwork at car shows and events in the future, to generate interest in our ministry, and to recruit more teens to get involved. Future projects will include rebuilding and restoring cars to be gifted to those in desperate need of a car but cannot afford them. Imagine a ministry where we are teaching basic life and mechanic skills to kids, leading them to be productive citizens in society, while teaching them to also give to those in need!

Think of the rippling effects on these teenagers’ lives, as they learn auto and life skills, but most importantly, some spiritual principles that will carry them beyond this life. I want to offer kids the opportunity to discover their gifts and talents, and through them, the purpose for which they were created. The opportunities to discover and pursue gifts and talents escape more and more of today's youth. Without the motivation of pursuing a worthwhile dream or achievement, a vast majority fall victim to an empty and unfulfilling life. The end result is an increase in those who are a drain on society and a decrease in those who are contributors.

I ask to join me in making this dream a reality. We have the car, we have the place, we have the participants. Will you consider joining with us, and witness these kids bring this old car to life, and hear its engine roar once again?
