Yosef (Joel) Busner Needs a Kidney

Joel Yosef Busner was originally diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure in January 2006, at which point he began Hemodialysis treatments.
In August 2007 Mr. Busner received a live kidney transplant in the Philippines. There were problems with the transplanted kidney from the very beginning as well as a lot of stress because his private insurer, Harel Insurance, backed out of most of his health policy's commitments.  Some money was raised from donors but much of the bill was paid personally by Mr. Busner.

Less than 3 years later, and after many visits to the hospital, the transplanted kidney stopped functioning.
Mr. Busner elected to do Peritoneal Dialysis so that he could travel and do speaking tours and meetings in the US and Canada for his work.  In Israel they didn't have Home Hemodialysis as an option and they still don't have it.  Peritoneal Dialysis was supposed to at least allow Mr. Busner to travel but the treatments weren't effective enough and Mr. Busner's blood tests were very poor.  He was hospitalized several times including for Peritonitis and other serious infections.

In order to be able to do Peritoneal Dialysis Mr. Busner first needed to repair 3 different hernias which were caused from the original kidney transplant.  Unfortunately, the weight of the fluids in his abdomen from the Peritoneal dialysis caused the 2 lower hernias to tear badly.

10 years ago in April 2010 Mr. Busner went back onto Hemodialysis.  He now does all night treatments 3 times per week in Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

THE PLAN AND BUDGET

Thanks to more people donating live kidneys in Israel, the amount of kidney transplants is increasing.  In any case, Mr. Busner has been working to support his family as well as his Jewish activist activities all the while.  Time has taken its toll and we must do everything to find a matching donor and have Mr. Busner ready and able to undergo the transplant as well as to have the assistance to convalesce in order to ensure a sustainable transplant.

-The hernias must be repaired and healed in order for Mr. Busner to be able to undergo a kidney transplant.  Due to the scar tissue from the previous surgeries as well as the longer healing time for dialysis patients, Mr. Busner will need a month to convalesce post surgery.  This is in addition to 3-4 days of hospitalization post surgery.

-In addition, Mr. Busner must be hospitalized for 10 days in order to undergo some 20 transplant qualifying tests.

-Mr. Busner being an 'O' Blood type combined with high antibodies (because of previous transplanted kidney), will need further hospitalization of about 7 days to change his plasma in order to make his match more compatible with less risk of rejection.

-For the transplant, Mr. Busner will need to be hospitalized for 7 to 10 days.  Afterwards, he will need to convalesce for about another 60 days.

-Unfortunately, being a hard match, in addition to registering with groups like Matnat Chaim (live donor organization), we must advertise in Jewish media and communities to increase the amount of participation from potential donors.

From 2014 until 2018 money was spent on:

-Fees to this Crowdfunding site
-Graphic design and video production for advertising
-Minerals and Supplements
-Dental work
-Drivers during down times
-Natural therapy treatments to reduce pain and swelling

This has left the kidney fund with about $15,000.

We are seeking an additional $75,000 for advertising, convalescing, non covered medical supplies and supplements, natural treatments, etc.

Finally, after so many years and suffering, Yosef has a chance to experience a normal life again.
May you be blessed for your concern and attention to this matter.
