In 2019, Devon stopped by a major grocery store chain and grabbed sushi for dinner. She ended up contracting fish poisoning from the sushi, which ultimately sent her kidneys into failure. Before she knew it, she was in a terrifying situation, fighting tooth and nail for her life in the ICU.
Since then, for the last 2.5 years, she’s been living in kidney failure — enduring six invasive surgeries, dialysis treatments, extreme trauma and stress, and for a time, even losing her ability to walk.
Before her accident, Devon's life was full of promise. A passionate teacher, she had just created her most popular course to date on 3D software. She welcomed thousands of eager students to her design community.
Now Devon lives on a dialysis machine for a 10 hours a day, every day. Her ability to pursue her passions in design and teaching has been severely limited. All her energy is focused on the work of surviving from day to day.
When Devon went into kidney failure in 2019, we created a GoFundMe to cover the expenses for her initial life-saving medical treatment.
We're so grateful for the community support that allowed her to make it through that initial catastrophe.
Unfortunately, things have become significantly more dire in the last 2.5 years. She continues to suffer from kidney failure, struggles with her injuries, and endures an extremely compromised quality of life. At this point, the only way she can make a full recovery is with a kidney transplant, which we're organizing at kidneyfordevon.com.
But medical treatment and the kidney transplant process is expensive. We need your help to see this through and to get Devon the kidney she needs to live. The funds from this GoFundMe will cover costs for Devon's kidney transplant and recovery.
We can't let her story end here.
Here's where we need your help. We're fundraising now to cover Devon's medical expenses, get her transplanted, and give her another shot at life.
This fundraiser will directly support:
- Devon's present ongoing medical treatment, like daily dialysis
- Life-saving kidney transplant surgery for Devon
- Living expenses, due to not being able to work
- Day-to-day operational expenses, like Devon's emergency back-up kit
- Recovery and medical expenses after surgery
Devon is full of life, fearless about the things that excite her, and can’t help but teach any student who's looking to learn.
She has so much left to give and, with our help, she's not done yet. Thanks for helping to support a Kidney for Devon. ❤
