Kidney Transplant Fund for Katrina

Update: My mom and Dana are two weeks out from surgery and they are out of the hospital doing well! Dana is healthy and doing great and we still can't thank him enough. He is one of a kind! Both my mom and Dana still have many follow up appointments to attend at Mass General. My mom has three appointments a week for the next couple months. She will continue to be out of work for a while. She can't drive for a few more weeks and she can't go to any public places like the grocery store for a while due to the immunosuppressants she is on. All of this, a small price to pay in order to get her life back! We are all so excited for her and still in shock that she finally received a transplant! So far, her lab work is looking good and she is starting to feel better!!! She wants to thank everyone who has been so kind and generous, as every dollar has helped tremendously. She can't wait to be able to get back into nursing and start working full time again! It's been a few years without the ability to work which is tough for a single person trying to focus on her health. In the meantime, your donations come greatly appreciated and we send all our love and gratitude ❤️

My mom has been battling end stage kidney disease for five years now. Drs aren't entirely sure of the cause for her kidney disease but have given her a diagnosis of focal segmental glomerular sclerosis or FSGS. She has been on dialysis and experimental treatment protocols, but now her life depends on a successful kidney transplant.

We have been informed that there is a potential match for my mom and surgery could be as early as this month!!! My mom is currently in the process of receiving final health clearances to ensure the surgery can be done. In the meantime, she must continue to frequently visit her doctors as they keep a close eye on her health. She is trying to stay positive but realizes the gravity of the challenges that lie ahead of her.

We are hoping to raise money to lessen the financial burden that accompanies this process. My mom has been unable to work full time with her worsening symptoms but has continued to work twice a month in order to somehow stay afloat.
Even with medical insurance, there are uncovered expenses that accompany the surgery including frequent travel/parking fees for numerous dr visits and ongoing treatment, post-op physical therapy and rehab, anti rejection medications (mandatory for the rest of her life), and lost wages for at least three months.

Transplantliving.org has estimated the total cost for a kidney transplant can add up to $262,900.

We humbly ask for your help during this difficult time. The transplant process is long, complicated, and costly with escalating physician visits and labs leading up to the transplant and the overwhelming care post-transplant. Your donation can help diminish the weight of financial burdens and help my mom focus on a healthy recovery and life. Any donation will make a difference. Our family thanks you for your love and support.

With all our love and utmost respect,

Katrina's Family
