Kidney Failure in Infants and Young Children

Sunday Morning on the 12th January 2020 the unexpected happened to our beautiful 8 month old baby girl - she had a fit/stroke; no warning signs at all, it really did just happen right away.  Thinking quickly my husband and myself called 999 and the ambulance arrived not 10 minutes later, taking us and our baby girl to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen where they did multiple tests and brain scans in order to figure out why she had had the fit... Then the bad news came, this wasn't caused by the brain but it was our daughters kidneys shutting down, and not just one kidney - both of them. The quick thinking between the amazing staff at Glangwili Hospital began making arrangements to stabilise our daughter and arrange for the EMRTS HTP (Air Ambulance) to rush us to Noah's Ark Children's Hospital in Cardiff and by the Monday we had arrived and our daughter was placed in the Paediatric Critical Care Unit pretty much just as her kidneys failed. Staff Members as well as a team of specialists than revaluated the situation, did more blood test, genetic screening and than a scan of her kidneys noting that both kidneys are larger than they where ment to be. Five days in, with no sense of time or date more and more results have come in and more and more tests including a biopsy of her kidneys which have resulted in in us finding out that her inlarged kidneys are caused by genetics and that on top of everything she has caught a viral infection known as E Coli (which I will inform you more on further on). Knowing all of this our baby girl has been placed on Dialysis and will continue on Dialysis for the rest of her life until she is old enough and strong enough.  No we have to worry about insuring our whole house is always 100% sterile and that we can travel from Carmarthen to Cardiff and back again for regular check up which will both cost a good amount for the bus fare and for the medical cleaning products we will need to buy therefore any little bit helps both to my husband and myself and to our beautiful baby girl We really do appreciate everything the hospitals, Air and ground Ambulance and the Ronald Mcdonald House Charity has done for us and any little bit you can help us with will also be a great help Thank you
