Kidney 4 Kevin

Donation protected
We are here to help Kevin, Esther & their four beautiful children through the journey of finding Kevin a new kidney. We all know the world is a better place thanks to Kevin and Esther, because of the way they love people. This is our chance to give some of that love back to them.

When Kevin was 4-years old he was diagnosed with the rare autoimmune disease known as Henoch-Schönlein purpura or HSP. The short version is, the immune system is too good at its job, when there is nothing else to fight, it starts to fight itself. Usually, it attacks the kidneys because they are the body’s filtration system.

For much of Kevin’s childhood they were able to avoid a transplant using medication.

Kevin's kidneys were fighting the good fight. But over time they needed some re-enforcements. So in 2007 after several months of dialysis Kevin's Mom was able to give her kidney. Mom’s kidney came in for the assist and Kevin received his first kidney transplant.

FUN FACT: Did you know they don't actually take out the old kidney? Kevin actually has 4 kidney in his body right now. Once one is “disconnected” it shrinks to the size of a walnut.

Kevin's lovely new kidney was an amazing help. It worked hard, day in and day out. But in 2011 Kevin contracted CMV. A virus that is fairly common and probably wouldn’t be a big deal to most, but it can often cause dehydration. Kidneys do NOT like dehydration. After the CMV virus had passed Kevin’s kidney could not bounce back. Help was needed. So in 2012, Kevin’s Dad’s kidney stepped in to carry the load.

And the load was carried well.

But some loads are too big, and a village is needed.

So, that brings us to today.

Kevin is in need of another kidney transplant.

In addition to all the big and scary things you and I have had to deal with this year, Kevin has been in and out of the hospital. The Bagne family's world has been flushed with big medical words and scary numbers and an even more restrictive diet to better support kidney function. Can you image having to completely change the way you eat right now? Seriously, look up the renal diet, it’s the worst.

Kevin and Esther have fought the good fight, they have worked hard and they have carried this load far enough. It is time for us, their village, to step up.

I know we're all struggling right now, but if we all take on a little, it will lift their load a lot.

We don't know yet where Kevin's kidney will be coming from, (if you happen to have one sitting around with A+ that could benefit from a new home, please call [phone redacted] or [phone redacted], option 1)

Experience has told us, wherever the new bundle of tissue and joy comes from, it will be a long, hard, and expensive process. This new bundle kidney joy will need all the love and support it can get from its new family. We are here to lend support during that transition.

You can donate through a variety of options.
