Kicking Cancer Out of Towne

If you found this GoFundMe post, it is because you personally know Laura Towne, have mutual friends, or stumbled upon this post randomly. In any case, you are lucky to get to know this courageous fighter.

On September 26, 2015, Laura suffered three grand mal seizures while taking a travel nurse assignment in San Diego.  That day her MRI revealed an almond-sized mass. After a few days of testing, she was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma (GBM), which is a rapid growing brain tumor.

After one craniotomy, 33 days of radiation, 42 days of chemotherapy with continued chemo one week a month for a year, and a lot of immunotherapy injections,  Laura was considered "stable".  With brain cancer, they never use the word 'cured'.

Since then, she has had follow up MRI scans every 3 months that have all been stable. With each good scan, Laura and her friends celebrated her health & eat brain-shaped cake at her annual 'crani parties'. Two and a half years went by with Laura living life to the fullest and no ill side effects.

February 23, 2018, Laura had another grand mal seizure while she was in her car - thankfully she was not driving!  After reading her MRI, her neuro-oncologist noticed "a small something" he did not like, but it was too small to diagnose. A repeat MRI a month later revealed a small, grape sized mass.

If Laura isn't delivering babies as an L&D nurse, she's exploring her city of Austin, Texas, hanging with her friends and/or making new ones, and avoiding pickles (seriously, do not eat pickles around her). Despite her circumstances, Laura has remained her positive, joyful, witty, and sarcastic self.  She is an activist for the the Head for the Cure Foundation and a tremendous support for others fighting cancer or going through health challenges.

Due to her recent seizures, Laura is not allowed to drive, relying on her friends and ride shares for transportation. Very soon she will start treatment to fight the fight again. This will likely leave her unable to work while she focuses on her health. She will need all the support and encouragement she can get from friends, family, and strangers.

She's beat this before and she's going to do it again. We had a GoFundMe for her 2.5 years ago and it was a tremendous help with her medical bills. Let's lift her up again and show her just how many people are here fighting right beside her.
