Kick Cancer's Arse for Kerry

You never think you will hear the words “you have Breast Cancer” in your life time. You hear of others but still don’t expect it to be you. You check your breasts regularly, go to the Doctor once a year for an annual checkup and try your best to live a healthy life. Does this sound familiar?
This is what Kerry Hutley did, 15 months ago she was told she had a small lump in her breast and to come back in 12 months for a checkup. Kerry thought nothing of it as her Doctor was not too concerned. On Thursday the 16th November 2017, Kerry went to see her Doctor for a checkup, after a biopsy was performed and results were in, Kerry was informed that her small lump that didn’t seem important had now grown to a 7cm stage 3 tumor and was now a serious medical condition that needed urgent treatment.
Let me introduce you to our sister Kerry Hutley. Kerry is a 54-year-old mother of three, Nathan (30), Megan (28) and Travis (18), a true blue Aussie Battler from the bush.
Kerry is the eldest of six children to Miriam and Sandy Hutley. Ever since Kerry was young she worked the land like her parents, and siblings. Kerry learnt from a young age that you had to work hard to achieve your goals. Kerry along with her family drove cattle from Queensland to South Australia while being a young mother herself. Kerry has always worked to provide for and look after her family, no job was ever beneath her, as long as she was providing for her family. Kerry has continually put her family and friends first and herself second, no matter what the task is.
Kerry has always had a sense of community. In her younger years, she was a part of the Cloncurry B&S Committee that raised thousands of dollars every year for local charities. She also entered the Cloncurry Miss Rodeo Queen contest, again raising thousands of dollars for charities in North West Queensland. The fund raising, and contribution continued as she was selected to represent Queensland in the Miss Rodeo Australia contest. Kerry was also a driving force behind resurrecting the Cloncurry Rugby League Club Competition when her youngest son Travis was at School. She worked tirelessly to organise financial and volunteer support for this activity to be available for the youth of Cloncurry and to ensure that food was available on competition days.
Kerry is no stranger to tragic circumstances. Kerry’s eldest child Nathan was kicked in the head by a horse at a very young age and her daughter Megan was in a horrific car accident 7 years ago. Fortunately for Kerry through her strength and determination and the strength and determination of her son and daughter they pulled through and are upstanding adults today.
Kerry has been diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBS), which is a rare, very aggressive disease in which cancer cells block lymph vessels in the breast. IBS cancer progresses rapidly, and the serious nature of this cancer requires an aggressive treatment solution. Kerry has been rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and is currently undergoing MRI, bone density and other tests to determine the full extent of her cancer. She has been advised she will need to undergo 4-6 months of Chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and radiation therapy.
Kerry has a long road ahead of her in a city that is not close to her family and friends. Kerry is also one of the strongest women I have met and known, she has had many low points in her life but always comes out on top. Kerry is determined to fight this breast cancer disease, but she needs your help!
Kerry and her lifelong partner John have had to move from their current place of residence in Tennant Creek to Darwin (to be closer to the Darwin airport to allow the required travel from Darwin to Adelaide), to obtain the specialist treatment for Kerry to fight this aggressive breast cancer. Due to the move and the need to focus on this fight for her life and her recovery, Kerry has had to leave her job and will not be able to work again for at least 6 months. John will also be required to take extended amounts of leave to be with her during this tough time in their lives.
There have already been many additional expenses including re-location, taxi fares, meals, accommodation and medication and it is just the beginning.
We want to raise enough money to help Kerry with her day to day expenses over the next 6 months while undergoing chemo, surgery, and radiation and to help with the additional costs for taxis, medication, special dietary requirements and nutritionist advice and some flights incurred to get treatment and beat this thing called ‘cancer’.
