Kiarie Family Medical Bills

Donation protected
From Jackline Kiarie, my cousin, Peter's daughter:

We’re raising funds to cover my father’s, Peter Njenga‘s medical and hospital funds. My father is 56 years old and is a Pastor by calling. He has been a Pastor for the past 30 years.

My father was admitted to Livingstone hospital in Port Elizabeth on the 5th of May 2020 after experiencing symptoms of shortness of breath, vomiting, fatigue and inability to go to the toilet. After various tests were conducted, he was diagnosed with end stage renal failure. We were told that he required emergency dialysis without which he would pass away in 2 weeks. We were further told that he did not qualify to be on the State program as their cutoff age is the 50 years.

His condition however deteriorated. He was placed on oxygen and transferred to the High Care facility. We managed to gather enough money to pay the hospital deposit and dialysis deposit. Both of which amounted to the sum of R 80 000 “ $4 700” and R60 000 “$3 529”. respectively.

He was placed in ICU when he arrived at the private Hospital (which I shall not name due to legal reason) and they inserted a temporary catheter. His condition deteriorated and he was placed on a ventilator. He has been in ICU since the 18th of May 2020. His condition remains critical but stable. He however requires a permanent catheter to be surgically inserted. We have not been informed of the money required for that operation as the Dr is trying to put it off for as long as she can.

We have with the assistance of friends and family paid the total amount of R228 000 “$13 411” on his medical and hospital bills. We have run out of money and currently owe the hospital the approximate sum of R 800 000 “$47 000” which excludes drs fees, dialysis fees, pathology fees and physiotherapy fees.

The private hospital had refused to place him on the ventilator and attempted to transfer him back to the public hospital. However, the Dr on duty that day refused to authorise the transfer and placed him on the ventilator.

The hospital periodically calls to harass us regarding the payment of the amount of the balance. They hospital currently wants us to pay the R100 000 “$5 882” a week, despite the fact that we entered into a payment arrangement and signed an acknowledgment of debt.

The dialysis unit sent us a further bill for R25 000 “$1 470” which is in addition to the R60 000 which we paid as deposit. The dialysis unit has placed his dialysis on hold until the balance has been cleared citing they don’t allow give private patients a credit facility.

His Dr is adamant that his condition is treatable to the point he can be released as an outpatient for dialysis. She further advised us that the process can’t be rushed and it may take time. He ideally requires a kidney transplant but he is not stable enough to perform such transplant.

My only desire is to see him alive and well. This is however, only possible through your financial assistance. Any contribution will go a long way and will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
