<div>Aloha mai, my name is Kiana Hauhio. I am 40 years old, and I was born and raised in Waianae, HI. I worked my way through college to earn a PhD in Information Technology. Currently, I am employed in cybersecurity, keeping malicious actors and activity at bay for my employer. I enjoy attending church every Sunday, I love spending time with my family at home, going to the beach, trying new eating spots around the island, singing, playing any instrument I can get my hands on, and learning ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi.

<div>In April 2024, I was diagnosed with colon cancer (of the sigmoid). After surgery to remove the primary cancer and lymph nodes, I underwent 4 rounds of chemotherapy. Post-chemo scans and CEA (a measurement of cancer protein) showed no signs of cancer. I then did my 6-month (May 2025) follow-up scan where doctors saw small lesions on my liver. My 3-month (August 2025) scan showed a spike in CEA and that the lesions on the liver grew in size (these can be seen in the 3 photos). A biopsy confirmed it was cancerous and that it metastasized from my colon. I am now on round 3 of 12 of Folfiri + Avastin chemotherapy.

<div>Recent PET scans showed the cancer is only in the liver, which makes me a potential candidate for a liver transplant. I still need to continue meeting certain criteria for a transplant (no progression in cancer, that I respond to the chemotherapy, my CEA levels remain low, and I need to wait for a year from diagnosis (May 2026)). I am also seeking a second opinion from an oncologist/liver surgeon in California who can offer different treatments for colon cancer that metastasized to the liver on top of chemotherapy to help shrink and get rid of the cancer tumors.

<div>This is where the need for funds is critical. <strong>I will need to make multiple trips to the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY from Hawaiʻi for examinations to prepare myself for a liver transplant as well as for the transplant itself and also traveling between Hawaiʻi  and California for other treatments (that isn't chemo) to treat the cancer. </strong>During all this travel, I will need my caregiver to travel with me for these appointments and when surgery happens to assist with healing.
