Kia Goes To South Africa

Hey y'all!
My name is Kia Smith and I am a senior studying journalism with an emphasis in advertising and a minor in Africana Studies at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. Ever since I could remember, I've always had a heart for service and lifting others as I climbed.

When I discovered the Meet and Teach organization, I knew that this would be an opportunity I just couldn't pass up. Meet and Teach is a non profit organization that provides mentorship and skill building in areas of video production, music production, dance, graphic design and opportunities provided by volunteers from all walks of life. For one month starting in December, we will live, teach, and experience everyday with the children, men and women who inhabit Cape Town, South Africa.

I am attending this trip as a volunteer mentor because I myself am a true testament that mentoring changes lives but I am positive that it is ME who will come back knowing more about myself, my culture and the world as a whole.

My mother recently told me that "dreams can be accomplished as long as you are willing to pursue them" with that being said, I am financially unable to pay for this trip alone but I refuse to get discouraged even though I have a lack of funds at the moment. With your blessings, I will be able to:
• Buy my round trip plane ticket
•Pay for housing for one full month
• Pay for transportation
