Man injures self, protecting child

Calvin Blackwood is one of the most hard working men I have ever had the pleasure to call my Father-in-Law! On Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 11:00AM, Calvin Blackwood had a ATV accident with a 6 year old boy. The young boy wasn't operating the four-wheeler. The six year old was on his lap and accidentally grabbed the handle bars!! In doing so, grabbed the throttle, accelerating the ATV into an eighteen wheeler trailer. To save both of their lives, Calvin Blackwood used his left leg to try and stop the ATV from going under the trailer. Calvin is a HERO!! The six year old boy had minimal injuries (cuts), however, Calvin suffered great trauma and injury to his left leg. He was taken to MUSC trauma center and was admitted for surgery. His injuries included a broken Tibia and Fibula. Also, he crushed his Tibial Tuberosity (right below the knee cap). He had a team of 5 surgeons working on his leg and also had a pin (Nail) and screws put down the entire center of his Tibia bone. Calvin will be at MUSC for 3 days.

Calvin Blackwood is a husband, father and grandfather. He is the ONLY financial provider for his family and unfortunately doesn't have health insurance. The Blackwood family all have the Stress of the financial burden they have to face over the next 3 months. This includes taking care of their 19 year old Special Needs Son!!! They also have car payments, bills, a house payment, food expenses, electric bills and anything else a average normal family has to worry about.

100% of the money donated will be going to Calvin and Donna Blackwood for their medical expenses and household bills!!! Donna is linked to this site and able to make any daily posts on Calvins progress. All donations go right into their bank account.

Calvin Blackwood was a HERO Sunday, and truly saved a little boy's life and he needs our help. He is always helping people in the Moncks Corner community and there couldn't be a better time for us to help back. It truly breaks our hearts to see him in this much pain!!!
