Khloe's Kidney Failure Fundraiser

Donation protected
Khloe has been battling type 1 diabetes for many years but in February things took a major turn for the worst.

There is a reason why they say Kidney disease is a silent killer. It develops over a long period of time, and many people do not know they have it until it is very far along.  Like many others, Khloe didn't suspect a thing.

On the day things begin to spiral downhill Khloe had just gotten to work, turned on her computer and realised that something wasn't right.  Unable to read the screen as if looking through frosted glass, the initial assumption was that she had probably just put her contacts in incorrectly, unfortunately, this wasn't the case.  After an emergency appointment, she found out that she had a disease called Macuela Edema.  There had been haemorrhaging at the back of her eye and she had basically lost her sight. The days following this saw her sight deteriorate in both eyes and she was struggling to see at all.

Things started to get progressively worse from here. She started experiencing nosebleeds and intense headaches. A visit to the GP and a test of the protein levels in her kidneys he concluded that they were leaking. He advised she would be referred to the hospital and they would be in touch in due course. That evening the same GP called and asked Khloe to seek emergency treatment at the hospital as he was very worried something was wrong. He was right! It was at the hospital that it was revealed she was badly anaemic, suffering from high blood pressure and she was at risk of a stroke as her heart was under so much strain. They told her that she had kidney failure and she was in a critical condition.

Her kidneys are now functioning at less than 10%. She had an operation last Thursday to have a tube fitted in order to begin perinatal dialysis until she can find a donor. For those that are unfamiliar with this (myself included until this week), she will be required to hook up to the tube 7 days a week for 8 hours a day. As well as taking 25 tablets a day.  Due to COVID 19 many of the transplant clinics are closed. Khloe has no information about the options available to her and is still waiting to be added to the donor list. Something which should have happened when the kidney functioning level was at 20%! I and Charlie, as well as others, want to be checked to see if we can be potential donors but again this is being delayed due to the current situation and lack of available resources. So currently we are at an impasse.

What is important now is that we try to make Khloe as comfortable as possible while she waits for the next steps to become available to her. This, unfortunately, could take years. She has been in and out of the hospital now since the beginning of February.  She is under a great deal of stress trying to keep up with her mortgage payments and is currently only receives statutory sick pay. As you can imagine this £92 a week does not go far.  As well as general living costs she now has to find the money to purchase a table/trolley for a dialysis machine to be stored upon, an air-con fan to control the temperature of the machine and medicine she needs to store, wash trays and sterile products to ensure everything is safe for use as well as other precautionary measures to avoid infection.

As close friends to Khloe it is hard to watch her deteriorate so quickly. You feel so helpless. Khloe is has a huge personality and even through all this her crazy, outspoken and goofy personality still shines on.  Khloe is very lucky to be surrounded by the people that love her the most.  Khloe's partner Dean has been her rock through it all and we are so glad that she has somebody that she can depend on but we still need your help.

If you know Khloe personally you know that she is a hard-working individual that doesn't take handouts. She has worked two jobs since the age of 16 but because of her condition, she can't get access to critical financial assistance with no insurance company even considering her at this point. She wouldn't ask, so we are asking for her. Please if you are in a position to help, donate. We understand everybody is in a precarious situation with COVID but a donation of any size is appreciated.  If you can't donate please share Khloe's page so that we reach more people. The goal we are trying to reach is for the essential equipment required for her treatment. We would love to go further than this to help assist with living cost but for now, the focus is on essentials anything past that is a bonus.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and we hope you will consider donating

A message from Khloe

I put on a brave face, but I am petrified! I have no idea of what is to come and need all the support from family and friends I can get right now. Diabetes is a silent killer. If you don't know how serious the illness is, please educate yourselves. If anything positive is to come of all this I want it to be that more people know of the dangers, the sign and symptoms. I don't want others to suffer this!

Educate yourself, educate each other, open up and share your experiences. Educate yourself about blood transfusions and see if you can help. They have literally saved my life and I am so thankful to the people that take their time to help people like me. I wish I was in a position to return their act of kindness.

Everything aside I would like to assure my friends and family that my mental health is fine. I hope that you all have me in your prayers. I am not religious but I cling onto the fact that I will be better. The dialysis will put me in a better position and I will come back stronger and fighting harder than before. It has all happened so quickly for me and I am not even sure it has completely sunken in yet. So to all my friends and family helping to me sane, I honestly feel so humbled by the present and flowers but mainly your presence. Just being there means the absolute world to me right now and I can't thank you enough.
