He has touched our lives in different ways - some through personal training, some through childhood friendships, some through school, some through football .... Khalid has given so much to each and every one of us. And now he needs us.

Those of you who know me understand how much I love to travel and that I especially adore traveling to St. Maarten. You also know how proud I am that my family was able to make a life investment on this wonderful island nearly 10 years ago, when we purchased a condo on the beaches of Cupecoy.
On September 6, 2017 Hurricane Irma (Hurricane 5) with its 200 mph winds ravaged its way through St. Maarten destroying pretty much everything in its path on the island - including our condo. Our building was one of the strongest buildings on the island and has maintained its facade, but many condos within our building have been completely destroyed. Our front window and sliding glass doors were blown open by the storm which eventually caused our entire unit irrefutable damage. This in turn resulted in the interior destruction of the entire condo. The worst part about it all was that we literally had only 9 months to finish paying the condo off.
This has been extremely tough on my family, in particular my mother who had a lifelong dream of leaving a family heirloom for all of her kids. Growing up in the 40’s and 50’s on the streets of Brooklyn, New York, she would always hear the kids in her neighborhood brag about their summer homes in Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, and the Hamptons. My family was immigrants only 1 generation prior, so clearly this seemed like an impossible feat. My mother was not blessed with the same opportunities as many of her peers, as we all know it was a different America then that it is today.
For many of you who have had the opportunity to travel down to St. Maarten with me over the years or stay at our condo with friends and loved ones, you know how precious of an island it truly is. With its multi-cultural appeal it is full of diversity, full of life, and full of love. It has become a second home for our family. I am reaching out right now, because we truly need help to restore our unit back to its original beauty. Everything must be replaced.
I sincerely appreciate all of the love many of you have shown my family and me over the past few months. Due to airports being shut down and almost all communication lost from all of the damage, it has been tough communicating with property management and contractors on the island. As a result when you have asked how things were going I really didn’t know. However we have finally had communication with the condo association and contractors and have discovered the extent of the destruction of the property. We are devastated at the news of all the estimated costs.
Lately we have been pressured to act fast by our HOA, or they will eventually put a lien on our property. This took us by surprise and the insurance companies have failed us miserably. Most of these companies are going bankrupt and it’s truly a mess. We are reaching out to see if anyone can help in our time of need. I love all of you, and if you probably know that I am a very proud man. I would not usually ever dream of going to this extent but this has been really trying not only on me, but also on my mother’s health and dreams. We need your help.
I know we all endure tough times, but if you can help me at this time in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small; every little bit will help in restoring our family’s heirloom. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Much love to you all.
