Hurricane Laura Relief

Scott Primeaux, a lifelong resident of Cameron, LA, and his wife, Pat, are feeling the devastation of losing everything they own for the second time in 15 years. In 2005, Hurricane Rita destroyed the home that Scott built for his family. They came home to nothing but a cement slab and all their belongings scattered on the ground and in trees. After Rita, they were determined to come back to Cameron and rebuild their lives.

In the small town of Cameron, Scott and Pat thrived as local business owners. Scott is a commercial fisherman and Pat owns a hair salon. These businesses have supported their family for the last 35 years. It seemed that life was getting back to a “new normal” until August 26, 2020, when they forecasted Category 4 Hurricane Laura to make landfall as a direct hit to Cameron.

Scott and Pat lost everything they knew and loved once again. The scene was all too familiar. All that was left of their home and Pat’s hair salon was scattered amidst the rubble. This time, Scott also lost his livelihood. His shrimp and oyster boats succumbed to the high tides and violent winds.

Scott says, says, “I will risk it all again because this is my home. It is a true Sportsman’s Paradise where you can live off the land".  Scott plans to rebuild his life back in the place he loves as soon as civilization returns to Cameron Parish.
