Help Donovan get a service dog

Hi, my name is Donovan Magee. I’m 10 years old and I have Type 1 Diabetes. I was diagnosed when I was 7. Every single day, I work really hard to take care of my blood sugar. I wear a Dexcom and an insulin pump to help me stay safe, and I try my best. But sometimes the Dexcom doesn’t catch when my sugar is low or high. It can say I’m fine when I’m actually not, and that can be scary and dangerous. There have been nights when the Dexcom didn’t catch a low, and I could have had a seizure. There have been times during the day when I felt really sick, and it still said I was okay. Sometimes, the site doesn’t go in right, or it just stops working for no reason. That’s why I’m trying to raise money for a diabetic alert dog. These dogs are trained to smell my blood sugar, even before my technology knows something’s wrong. The dog can wake me up if I’m low in the middle of the night or get help if I can’t talk. It can alert me when I’m going high so I can treat it before it gets worse. It would be like having a superhero best friend by my side 24/7. Some people have asked why the dog is so expensive, and I want to explain. It’s not just the dog you’re paying for. It’s the intensive, life, saving training the dog has to go through. These dogs go through months, even years, of training to learn how to detect blood sugar changes, how to respond, how to stay calm in public, and how to alert adults or even call for help. They’re trained to literally save lives. That’s what makes them so special and why it costs so much. I actually made this GoFundMe myself because I wanted to help my mom. She’s always doing everything she can for me, and I know this dog would bring her peace of mind, too. She worries a lot, especially when I’m sleeping or when I’m not right next to her, and I want her to feel safer, too.
