Kevin's ALS fundraiser

On November 4, 2020 Kevin Condra was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS, often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function. Unfortunately, this disease is fatal. The average life expectancy after diagnosis is two to five years.

As you can imagine, Kevin and his family are devastated by his diagnosis.  This disease has already begun to affect his day-to-day life. Simple tasks like typing and walking are becoming progressively more difficult for him to perform.
As the disease advances, Kevin’s nerve cells will be destroyed and he will become increasingly weak. He will no longer be able to experience life the way he imagined.

Kevin has dedicated the last 30+ years of his life to serving members of his community as a public health worker. He has been an advocate for community improvement and health through his efforts in building healthier schools, directing the state-wide WIC program, preventing injury, and promoting the importance of teen health, just to highlight a few. While 2020 has been a difficult year for most, it has been especially burdensome for healthcare and public health workers. During the last several months, Kevin has devoted his time to slowing the spread of Covid-19. He helped establish isolation and quarantine houses, and has worked to ensure that underserved populations have access to necessary resources.  

Kevin serves others every day. Whether it is community members, family, or co-workers, he generously gives his time to help anyone in need. Kevin’s selflessness has not gone unrecognized, and we (his co-workers) want to take this opportunity to give back to our co-worker and friend. Our goal is to send Kevin and his family on a getaway while he is still physically able. Each donation will go toward helping Kevin and his family take a much-needed break to enjoy precious time together.
