Kevin has SRMA (steroid responsive meningitis) and has been on steroid treatment for over 6 months. It’s an autoimmune condition, they’re not sure why dogs get it, may be hereditary, may be caused by unnatural things we feed and shoot our animals up with, who knows. It means his immune system is attacking his body, so by suppressing his immune system we save his life, but cause a SHIT TON of other problems.
There are really 3 scenarios for dogs with SRMA:
A) Dog responds well to treatment and lives perfectly normal life
B) Dog struggles a bit with treatment, probably remains on some small dose, lives mostly normal life
C) Dog does not respond well to treatment, suffers immensely, and life expectancy is very low
Kevin does not look like category A. To date I’ve spent over $10,000 on vet bills. Each time we wind up at the vet, I can count on dropping upwards of $1,000. We’re headed back there today. The results have never appeared as optimum health, and it feels like he’s in a steady, but slow decline. I can just about guarantee we’ll return in a month’s time, and with no source of income it’s…well, terrifying.
If Kevin has brought light to your day, and you have $1 or $5 to bring some to his, I will put that directly towards easing his pain and the obscene financial burden.
I also can promise if we get Kevin into category A or B, I will get him all the training he needs so he can go into hospitals to spread love and hope to sick children. He’s a very special critter, and has a natural ability to shift the mood of anyone he comes into contact with. I would like him to kick this disease’s ass so he can spread as much joy as possible. Minimize child suffering, maximize corgi joy infections.
Giving money to your friends is weird. Giving love is not (it’s actually the basis for the whole friendship thing). Being vulnerable and sharing this is therapeutic, and above all your love, prayers, intentions, and kind words are needed most.
