Kevin, Jon, & Baby Theo

Current Status - (March 1st)
Kevin is making great progress at Spaulding. He has a packed schedule with OTs, PTs, and Speech Therapists. His medical team expects that Kevin will return home in about 3 weeks. While it will be a relief to be back with Jon and Theo, Kevin is still going to need in-home care while he gets back to full strength.

Your contributions are making a huge difference for Kevin’s access to care and Jon’s network of support. Thank you for your continued generosity as these three amazing people try to get back to a sense of normal.

(Update from February 5th)
Baby Theo has visited Kevin at Spaulding Rehab several times and nothing brings a bigger smile to his face. Kevin has a rigorous rehab schedule and continues to slowly improve.

The funds we are raising will increase Kevin’s access to a broad range of treatment options at at Spaulding. Thank you for your continued generosity!

(Update from February 1st):
Kevin’s has been moved to Spaulding Rehab. The doctors continue to feel positive about his recovery given his age. Kevin will likely need another 1-2 months of rehab before he can return home.

Kevin, Jon, and their families are incredibly grateful for your generosity and continued support at this time. We hope to have more information about visitation at Spaulding soon.

(update from January 28th):
Over the weekend, Kevin moved from the ICU to another floor at MGH. His condition is stable, but the recovery process will be a long road.

Kevin continues to receive care from a dedicated staff of nurses, doctors, OTs, PTs, and speech therapists. Once he is stable enough to leave MGH, he will move into a full-time rehab facility.

How You Can Help:
Please consider donating to support Kevin, Jon, and Baby Theo through this difficult time. Your contribution will help with the costs of:

1. Alternative therapies that Kevin may need that are not covered by insurance.

2. Childcare when family or friends are unable to help Jon with baby Theo.

3. Ongoing needs that baby Theo will have (formula, diapers, etc).

4. A cleaner who can come to their house in Dorchester once a month.

5. Parking for Kevin's parents (who live in PA) when they visit Kevin at MGH / rehab.

6. Bills that will inevitably surface while Kevin and Jon are unable to work full time.

Background:
Baby Theo (Theodore James Lashley-Long) joined the family on January 6, 2019 at 4:50am at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, MA. He is a beautiful, healthy bundle of joy.

Kevin and Jon were able to be there for Theo's birth and spent time with Theo at the hospital learning to swaddle, burp, and change diapers. As they prepared to leave the hospital, Kevin had a stroke. Fortunately, he was already at a hospital - and time is a critical factor when it comes to strokes and future outcomes. A few days later, after being transferred to MGH, Kevin had a second stroke.

The medical staff at MGH is optimistic that Kevin will recover from these strokes, but they've cautioned us that it will be a long process. Neurological injuries take more time to heal as the brain rebuilds pathways to enable speech, physical movement, and so forth.

Visitation at the hospital is limited, so we are trying to mobilize Kevin and Jon's wide and incredible support network in other ways. There will be significant financial hurdles for them to overcome as a result of these recent events, so GoFundMe is a great way to show your support.
