Ketran's Heart Needs You

Donation protected
In January of 1988, at the age of 23 years old, my friend Ketran was diagnosed with Peripartum Cardiomyopathy after giving birth to her only child.  Cardiomyopathy makes it harder for the heart to pump and deliver blood to the rest of the body and can lead to heart failure.  Ketran was told she would never see her daughters 1st birthday; but her passion for life and God’s will, she has been able to stay active in her daughter’s life for 30 extended years.  With an entrepreneurial spirit, Ketran began Travel Desires that has allowed for her to support her daughter and travel the world.

Sadly, in 2003, she was diagnosed with pulmonary heart valve deterioration and she underwent open heart surgery for a valve replacement.  Regretfully, 10 years later she was diagnosed with an enlarged heart with Cardiac Heart Failure. Her heart function reduced to 10% because of the amount of fluid buildup in her heart and required a defibrillator implant to restore her quality of life.

In July 2017 Ketran, suffered a heart attack and now told that her heart was no longer able to provide adequate oxygen or blood supply to her organs and she will require a heart transplant.  Doctors inserted a continuous intravenous infusion of Milrinone into her body.  A medication drip that is connected outside of her body, not to be removed and provides a slow drip to relieve symptoms and improve hemodynamics in patients with advanced congestive heart failure.  However, this is a temporary aid until a donor is available.

On 9/09/2019 Ketran was finally given a second chance at life. She received a heart transplant in California and for the first time in over 31 years she is now able to hear and feel her heartbeat. She is almost two weeks post surgery and recovering amazingly fast.

The funds raised will be used to cover medical expenses post transplant. She is now on 23 anti-rejection medications that she has to take at certain times a day in order to keep her new heart working properly. As well as going to several doctors appointments almost 2 hours away 2-3 times a week for the next year as a part of her recovery process. Ketran has medical insurance but she is responsible for 80% of the procedure and the after care.  According to The National Foundation of Transplants, the average cost for a heart transplant through the first 5 years, medical expenses of can exceed $1.2 million dollars.  So as you can see, every monetary donation will help.

Please help me raise funds to help my friend Ketran reach and surpass her goal to cover her medical costs.
