In memory of Egon Kesterke

Egon Kesterke.
Father to Brendan (18 years old) and Kaden (10 years old), and husband of Elenore Kesterke for 23 years, passed away December 27th, 2017, at 50 years of age, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Egon was a sport enthusiast, and was most happy when he was attending one of his son's sporting events. It was Egon's wish that his sons continue to play and love sports, and have the financial means to support their Golf, Hockey and Baseball. We have set up this GoFundMe site to enable friends and family of Egon, Elenore, Brendan and Kaden to help make Egon’s wish for his boys, a reality.

Brendan, from a very young age played golf and quickly excelled at the game. Egon travelled with Brendan to his games and tournaments throughout Canada and into the US.  Egon was Brendan's caddie for many tournaments. It was something he loved to do - and often drove Brendan a little crazy.  If you stood next to Egon at any of his son's games, whether it be golf, baseball or hockey, he was a constant commentator!  A passionate commentator!

Brendan also played baseball and hockey.  Many times he was changing out of his golf attire and into his baseball gear in the back of the car, on his way from the greens to the diamonds.  When his golf game got good, and his time committment increased, hockey and ball had to take a back seat.

Brendan was asked to join the Manitoba Men's Bison Golf Team at the University of Manitoba his first year of University.  This was a very proud moment for the Kesterke family, as golf is a family affair and many holidays were spent together travelling to various golf tournaments.

Kaden, 8 years younger than Brendan, also inherited his family's love for sports. He plays hockey and baseball, and most recently took up the game of golf. Seeing Kaden's love of golf grow made Egon very happy.  Egon rarely missed one of Kaden's hockey games; despite his illness this winter, he was at almost every one of them, continuing to offer commentary from the boards.

Egon was diagnosed with leukemia in March 2016, and underwent aggressive chemo immediately.  He received a stem cell transplant from his eldest son, Brendan on July 22, 2016.

Egon was determined to beat his cancer, and was able to send it into remission, all the while bravely battling graft vs. host disease, and the side effects of his many medications.  In late November 2017, it was discovered his leukemia had returned aggressively and that time was precious.

Sadly, on December 26th, 2017, Egon suffered an aneurysm and peacefully passed away with his family by his side on December 27th, 2017.

Egon shared with his beloved wife Elenore several times, that his greatest sadness with his illness, was not being able to participate and support his younger son Kaden's sporting activities the way that he was able to do for Brendan.

Thank you for allowing us to share, thank you for your support, caring and love of Egon and his beautiful family!

Any contribution you are able to offer is greatly appreciated, and will go directly to the family.

Rest in peace Egon Kesterke.  You are loved and will be missed dearly by your family and friends.

XOXO
