Bridges-Kerstetter Medical Fundraiser

I am starting this fundraiser for my sister’s family as they are in need of help with their medical expenses and monthly bills. My niece Emma became very ill with the flu and is now fighting for her life. Emma is a beautiful, sweet, kind soul who has Down  Syndrome. 2 days ago Emma was brought to the Emergency room and went into cardiac arrest and with cpr they were able to get her back. Over the last 2 days we have learned she is in liver failure, kidney failure, and has tested positive for the flu, rhinovirus, Coronavirus and MRSA. She had surgery yesterday to explore her abdomen to see why she was so sick and found a large mass in her belly felt to be benign but has caused her intestines to twist on itself. The MRSA was found in the fluid in her abdomen. As of today she has had only slight improvements and will begin dialysis. The second part of this involves Emma’s mom ( my sister) who on the day Emma came to the ER was also admitted to the hospital and had to have surgery for an infection in her hand and has been limited on being able to see her very sick daughter. Mom is still inpatient at this time. 

With all of this being said, my sister and her husband both are unable to go to work and this will be a long process of healing. They also have two small boys to take care of as well. I being a nurse suspect this will be a long road of recovery and Emma will need much care after discharge. Emma  does have health insurance but Jessica does not. They will be accumulating medical expenses and with lost time of work will still have bills to pay as well as taking care of two other children.
