Kerry's MS Fight

Kerry's MS Story:

If any of you know Kerry, then you know how truly kind, funny, loving, brave, smart, handsome, caring and talented he is... you may also know that writing an essay like this is definitely not his thing. But luckily, if any of you know me (Meaghan), writing is my thing. So here we go.

In February of 2009, Kerry was diagnosed with MS. Four years after that he was forced to quit the job he loved in the TV industry because of his physical symptoms. He looks at this as a blessing in disguise because he decided to become a stay-at-home dad (one of the best ones I know) to two of the best kids in the world (Isabel and Avery).

Over the years, Kerry has seen many doctors and takes multiple medications to try to deal with his syptoms and slow down the progression of this scary disease.  At this point his right side is severly affected, to the point where he needs a cane to walk and can't write (or draw) with his right hand anymore. Kerry is an amazing artist and when his right hand began to fail he taught himself to draw with his left hand. His art work is truly incredible and a testament to Kerry's will to keep living life to the fullest no matter the obstacles.

Through chance, my sister met someone who attended a world-renowed health institute called Hippocrates Health Institute in the USA. Through a three week immersion program it helps people from all over the world learn everything they need to know to fight their health issues in every way possible. Emphasis at the institute is placed on diet, exercise, mental health and much more. Basically a total life-style overhaul. This is extremely overwhelming for anyone but particularly our Kerry (who is shall we say "cooking-challenged"--I once asked where his spices were  in his kitchen and he pointed me to a sad little cupboard that held just sad little containers of salt and pepper!)

This program is extremely expensive but will help Kerry get every tool he possibly can in his fight against MS. When he experiences new syptoms, he pretends that they don't scare him but they do. They would scare anybody. If there is anything he can do, any life-style he can learn about and adopt that will help fight the syptoms and slow down the progression of the MS, then it is completely worth every penny. Not only for Kerry's sake, but for his whole family, most especially his beautiful, happy kids who love their dad no matter what, who accept his physical limitations without question and who need him to be as happy, healthy and  mobile for as long as possible. (I am thinking age 85)!

Any bit of help would be so appreciated!
