Kerrie's fight for sight

Donation protected
Kerrie will be having eye surgery on 9th May 2018 to become the bionic woman! Well, not quite but she will be having an iris prosthesis implanted in her eye. That doesn't sound as exciting as becoming the bionic women but for Kerrie it is very exciting. The prosthesis will cover the hole in Kerrie's eye where an ocular melanoma tumor was removed in 2016. Melanoma in your eye? Yes, who knew that could even happen? It's extremely rare but, as I've always said, 'our Kerrie is one in a million'. Turns out that is pretty spot on.

Corrective surgery will alleviate the extreme light sensitivity and migraines Kerrie has experienced since the Tumor was removed. Cataracts have already developed in both eyes because of the increased glare and resulting strain on her eyes. Without this surgery Kerrie's sight will continue to deteriorate.  The surgery will be combined with cataract surgery and help Kerrie regain her independence. Not only will Kerrie's sight improve but her quality of life will imporve enormously. Her debilitating migraines should disappear. She will be able to drive at night and won't have to wear her eye patch unless she is actually going to a costume party as a pirate!

Kerrie is seeing her ocular melanoma oncologist in February to have scans and measurements taken so they can make her prosthesis. Kerrie will be treated in between the public and private system, which will significantly reduce the fees, but even so the surgery and prosthesis will still cost $6,000.

Kerrie has been unable to work since 2015 because of the complexity and chronic nature of multiple illnesses. Since being diagnosed with melanoma she has also been treated for breast cancer and continues to be treated for an ongoing and  debilitating inflammatory bowel condition.

Kerrie continues to soldier on however the constant cycle of doctors' appointments, scans, treatments, fatigue and stress have really taken a toll. She struggles to make ends meet and has no capacity to come up with $6,000.  Our goal is to raise $6,000 for Kerrie's surgery. This would be a wonderful support and alleviate some of the financial stress so that Kerrie can simply focus on her health.
