Keon "Danger" Providence - Bereavement Funds

Tribute by Jonathan Valelly / Father Dutch Constantine

Today is a dark day

When a person never fails to take the time to greet you, hug you, check in on you, encourage you, and show you how much he genuinely loves you without ever asking for anything in return, you know you have an angel by your side. Just think about how Founder Danger touched the hearts of every one of us in such profound ways, made each of us feel so recognized and cared for, even as he carries the weight of the world and then some, too often suffering in silence despite his enormous, magnetic, ambitious personality.

Whether you spoke to him daily - and that might hundreds of us, frankly - or knew him from backstage at the function, practice pop-ins, working the door, playing mas or wherever it may be, I know this one hit different. Danger was a rare type of man, principled, loyal, boundlessly generous. He loved ballroom, even when it didn’t love him back.

You will feel the impact of this grief in the way that makes sense for you. For some people, it hits like a tidal wave. For other’s it’s the calm before the storm. There’s no wrong way.

For many of us - I would venture all of us - the world suddenly feels very, very scary. That’s because in many ways, it is. How do we face the world without the steady anchor of a hero like Danger?

But Danger remains a part of every single person he blessed - and most importantly, he remains a part of us as a collective. We don’t have to go on without Danger. Instead, we will march together forward in his name, a parade of fighters and lovers and dreamers unafraid to fight for what is right, whatever the cost.

In the darkest times, Danger somehow always found hope. It was one of his superpowers. As we honour him and his legacy, I know he will offer us that same light and guidance, in due time.

This is so hard.
This is so fucking hard.
And we will never forget you, Founder, my brother and champion.
You can finally rest.

When I was feeling lost - and I am feeling lost right now, no doubt - Danger would look in my eye and tell me that we were family forever, and that we must always push ahead - “ever forward, backwards never.” So let us walk together down the shining, sequin and feather spangled runway that Danger has paved for us. He’s already told us what to do.

Yours in love and light,
Father Dutch Constantine and the House of Constantine

Keon Providence, known by many as "Danger" was a staple in the Black LGBT community. His warm & welcoming spirit, was often-times the first thing many people would see walking into any event in our community. He loved his families, birth & chosen, and would do anything to help anyone he had a relationship with.

We are raising funds to help his family take care of funeral arrangements, and other arrangements the family will need. His mom was by his side, when he passed and she is not well. Danger lived and breathed to take care of his mom. We have to come together as a community to fill in the gap, as much as we can.
