Kenya Project - EGP

Donation protected
Hey everyone,

I am extremely happy to say that I will be going with Edinburgh Global Partnerships (EGP) as a team to Kenya.

With Mother of Child Health Organisation (MOCHO), a non-governmental organisation, located in Rusinga, Kenya, our project is to help the organisation achieve its goals. Their aim is to reduce maternal mortality, mother-child HIV transmission, and to empower young women through education.

This year, our team will work with MOCHO to provide sanitary blocks and feminine hygiene products in schools. Every year in Kenya, 23.5% of young girls drop out of school around the age they start menstruation.

In many schools in this region, toilets are scarce and so are sanitary products; menstruation is a taboo subject. Meaning fewer females complete their secondary school education because they are ashamed of growing up.

This project was proposed by the schools themselves as a solution to their high female drop-out rate. Highlighting that this is a community-led based project!

To combat this issue, MOCHO and EGP will be running a programme which we believe will tackle many different sides to this problem. We will build two 8-stall toilets in two secondary schools, provide sexual health education for the children and provide reusable sanitary products to the girls in each school.
We will assist with the construction of the toilet blocks in each school, the sexual health education classes, and the distribution of reusable feminine hygiene products.

People that have known me for a while can reassure that female empowerment, gender equality and social equity are the things I have been in a constant fight for ever since I realised how unjust the system is. We don't live in a fair world and I am willing to give up my privilege to change that!
There isn't anything else I could passionately argue about, and I believe that Kenya Project will change and improve a lot of lives. Menstruation is a synonym of growth, and everybody should have their chance and RIGHT to flourish, not just us.

EVERY kind of help is welcome, and if you can only donate £1, I, my team and many girls will be forever grateful. Of course, everyone who donates will be posted on the project and will get tons of images of when I am there.

On a side note, EGP does not ignore local issues and therefore all volunteers, including myself, are constantly doing community service, which I am also willing to share information and images of all the projects I am participating in, just let me know if you would like to see some!

Thank you so much for reading, I truly hope you can all help and we can reach our goal!

My warmest wishes,
Ju ♥
