**Kenya Children with Albinism Hunted by Witch Doctors for Their Body Parts**
Help us reach our $15000 goal to be used towards a new safe house for Children with Albinism!

Children of Kenya with Albinism are the most vulnerable in our society, not only because many are poor, but more importantly because they are also hunted for their skin and bones. They are at a high risk of skin cancer and poor vision because of the problems associated with albinism and their little to no levels of melanin, which is a pigment that leaves their skin light in color and unprotected.

Some of the 8,000 plus Witch Doctors in Kenya and other African Countries have fabricated the idea that using the body parts of Albino children in potions or concoctions will increase the good fortune in the buyers' life. A non-surgically severed leg by a machete can fetch as much as $9,000 usd. Some people have even gone as far as digging up the old graves of people with Albinism and using their bones.

The Kenya Government is trying to combat this travesty by increasing punishments to Albino hunters, who pursue this solely for financial gains, by removing the licence and or jailing the witch Doctors who practice this type of medicine. The Government also does give some support to Albinism Organizations that fight for the day-to-day needs of Children with Albinism.

One such Non Profit Organization is KACSU.org or AFEAC (Kenya Albino Child Support- African Foundation for Education of Albino Children.)

For the past 14 years they have been supporting 150 children with Albinism to improve their quality of life by providing;

Protected, walled facility with security.
Access to quality education, books, pens, paper etc.
Sun lotion, made in Africa because import charges are too high.
Necessary large brim hats for sun protection.
Prescription glasses or sun glasses for protection.
Good clothes including one school uniform per year.
Sanitary pads for girls.
Annual health check ups for their skin and eyes etc.
They have acquired a 5.5 acre farm nearby and are working towards self-sustaining .

When I first read about the Albinism attacks I was so drawn to doing everything I could to step forward and help. I have never publicly asked for financial support for a more worthy cause.
Unfortunately, because KACSU is in Eastern Africa they have limited resources in getting the financial help they so desperately need from the North American supporters. I am a sponsor myself to a child with Albinism through KACSU and want to help others. I have spoken directly with the foundation's Director, Mary Kiptoo. As well as another person who is a long time sponsor living in Australia. The children need first aid material, their farm needs equipment and seeds for crops, chickens and chicken coops, suntan lotion, bedding, kitchen equipment and financial support for the many unsponsored children and much more.

Whether you can give $5 or $500, know that every dollar helps, and that all funds raised are transferred directly into the Foundation's bank account, and not to line suit pockets. If you are unable to give, please share this, as awareness is valuable.
$1 Canadian = 77 Kenyan Shillings and for example, 1 sustainable egg-producing chicken = $3.90 CDN, (300 shillings) a little goes a long way to those in need.

*****2019 UPDATE*****
During the first two weeks of 2019 Sylvia and I moved forward with our project to step up and help first hand on the ground in Kenya. With Sylvia's help with purchasing and logistics I traveled to Kenya Africa and spent two weeks working on both the farm and the orphanage to help improve many aspects of their current situation to help them become more self sufficient we ;
-purchased and installed a 5000 litre water tank with solar pump and sprinkler system to irrigate the Napier grass field used to feed the dairy cows.
-purchased and installed a 2300 litre water tank, new roof, drip water system installed eaves trough and made ready the soil for planting in a large greenhouse for leaf plants.
-purchased enough material for ten bedroom windows to decrease sunlight for the children's sensitive eyes.
-purchased and installed solar lights for both safety and security of the compound.
-purchased meds for the children to combat ring worm.
-purchased some school supplies for the new school year which starts Jan 2nd.
-purchased enough new supper plates for all the children to use instead of the old ones that are in very poor condition.
-purchased enough sleeping masks for all the children suffering from extreme light sensitivity to give their eyes the needed rest from many hours of sunshine.
