Hello everyone! My name is Kendall Hanselman. I am a painter/printmaker based out of the Boston, MA area.
Please help me go to Ireland!

This December I will be graduating with my BFA in Art Education and a minor in Art History from Montserrat College of Art. I am currently in the midst of my student teaching program, which will provide the certification to be an Educator of the arts. (Vulnerable moment: I have been living off money that I saved up from working as a full-time barrista this past summer for the past three months while working full-time as an unpaid teacher and will continue to do so until December when the program ends.)
Knowing that the program will be coming to an end soon I sent out some applications to residencies seeing if anything would stick with no expectations. Originaly, Ireland was more of a dream than anything else. I wasn't thinking much of it after I submitted my proposal, then I got accepted.
This is the first opportunity I have had to become an artist in residence. It is an extrodinary international opportunity for me to engage with my work, other artists and expand my thinking as an artist in a new place. Lord willing, I will be able to do so.
The residency period I have been chosen for will run for the entire month of February.

Ireland has always been a place I have wanted to go research and explore. My work is based in regard to landscape and develops based on my experiences and emotions in different places with different people.
The following is a statement about my current bodies of work:
Focusing on building up both forms and spaces based off my emotional landscape, I use the relational connections in my life as the source and drive behind the creation of my work. I let emotion and personal relationships become depicted through acrylic paint on a surface, as a space or form sitting in an atmosphere, much like a thought sitting in the mind.
Plan for residency:
I hope to continue to develop the language of the
concept that I have been exploring for the past year. I want to use my time in Ireland as a catalyst to push my work into new territories and ground the emotion backed ideas that I have been working through recently.
Along with this I also plan on continuing to consider my duty as a thinker and maker in this contemporary society, as an artist working internationally, and as a citizen of the United States while stepping out on this journey.
About The Burren Artist Residence in Ballyvaughan, Ireland:
The fee for 1 month stay is 800 euro or approximately $950.00
The program itself is 890 euro, or approximately 1050.00
I will be flying from Boston and also need funds for my transportation. The approximate cost for a round trip to Ballyvaughan Ireland is between:
$177.00 - $300.00
Since I will be there for an entire month, I will also need a stipend for food/misc. I am really good at eating as little as possible on the 'broke' diet, although not knowing all of the local secrets spots I want to make sure that I go prepared. I have estimated my food and miscellaneous expenses to be approximately:
$350.00 (or approx $87/week)
Total Goal: $2,500.00
