Ken and Kathy Carr Medical Expenses

Ken and Kathy Carr……to know them is to love them, and to be loved by them. This amazing couple has been pouring into the lives of others and loving those around them with passion and compassion for so many years. Now it is time for us to show them some extra love and support. 

Some of you know, but many of you may not, that Ken has been in increasingly poor health for about 8 months. Last November he was diagnosed with liver disease which he hoped to manage with meds and doctor visits. However, the disease quickly progressed to the point where he has been placed on the liver transplant list. He is waiting for a donor, but until that time comes, Ken continues to weaken and requires a procedure called paracentesis every five days in order to drain the 15-25 pounds of fluid from his abdomen that his liver can’t process. In addition to his liver disease and the Lupus he already had, Ken was diagnosed in April with cancer. This is the same cancer (CLL) his mother died from. Thankfully it is a slow-growing cancer which gives Ken 10-15 more years. Sadly, there is no treatment or cure at this time - just regular doctor visits to monitor its progress. Ken is down to 165 pounds and struggles daily.  He has an abundance of doctors (and appointments) and a plethora of medications. Added to all of this, Kathy is having double knee replacement surgery in August! 

These are difficult days, yet Ken and Kathy are not without hope. They find peace, strength, comfort and even joy through their faith in God. They know they are not forgotten. They know God is with them and they believe in his sovereignty. There may be things we do not understand, but we continue to “Trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding.” (Prov. 3:5)

There are many ways God provides for his people, including medicine, doctors, transplants - even healing miracles! We pray for healing, but until or if that happens, they are pursuing medical intervention. Of course the medical profession demands payment! Unfortunately, Ken had to go on permanent disability in February. Ken and Kathy are now living on 60% of what he made before,  but a large percentage of that goes to cover his medical expenses. Medical bills are pouring in, and they will need more than $25,000 by September to pay for these expenses.

While it is so difficult to ask for and receive this kind of support, we would really like to see this financial burden removed from Ken and Kathy’s shoulders so they can focus on life and healing without having the added burden of overwhelming financial obligations. Kathy does plan to return to the workforce in 2019, after recovering from her double knee-replacement surgery, but is unable to do so at this time. If you are able, please help us show our love to them in this tangible way. Also, prayer support is coveted and so very much appreciated. We know that our God is bigger than all of these earthly challenges and trust that He is loving and watching over Ken and Kathy each day. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)
