Kemery Ortega is a Senior at East High School and a victim of the senseless drive-by shooting on Monday, March 7, 2022, in front of her school. Her mother, Miriam Montiel, is a valued member of the Lenox Community and a valued employee at Wellman, but she has to stay up in Des Moines with her daughter right now. As Miriam sits by her daughter's side at a loss for what will happen next, she is not working but still incurring several medical bills. She will need a lot of support and help to get her through the next few months or longer. Kemery will need help to get her back to the vibrant young woman before this tragedy.
