Kelly's Rehabilitation Fund

Dear Friends,
Many friends have asked how they can help Kelly and her family. We’ve established this fund in order to help Jim cover the expenses associated with Kelly’s therapy and other health needs. Please consider making a contribution, and pass the link to this site to as many people as possible. Kelly is a young women with two amazing children and a fabulous husband. Kelly has done so much for others. This is our opportunity to give back to her for all she has done for us.
As many of you are aware, on November 1st Kelly suffered a severe ruptured brain aneurysm. Following this event Kelly was taken to Shock Trauma where she underwent several procedures to reduce the swelling in her brain and stop the bleeding.
Kelly spent close to a month in intensive care at the University of Maryland. At that time the doctors and nurses could not provide a prognosis and explained that each brain injury patient is very different. It was emphasized that patience would be necessary, as recovery would be slow, and a determination regarding how much recovery could be expected could take some time.
Kelly was discharged from the University of Maryland to begin intensive rehabilitation therapy at Kernan. During this time Jim and the kids began to investigate the next place that Kelly could go to receive much needed care and treatment. After a month at Kernan, Kelly was discharged and sent to Keswick.
Kelly has been at Keswick for a month. Last week Jim was notified that insurance would no longer pay for her therapy OR her care. In their assessment Kelly was not making progress and no longer a candidate for services.
At this time, Kelly has very limited use of her body, and is unable to communicate through speech or hand gestures. Kelly receives all nutrition through a feeding tube and receives all self-care from others. We all believe Kelly needs the opportunity to recover as fully as possible. Without therapy there is little hope for her brain to continue to develop and heal.
