On July 10th in the early afternoon, an electrical fire started in our home. Ian and I were at work, when we found out there was a fire occurring and fire fighters were on the scene putting it out.
Our five ferrets, Eve, Lily, Wally, Daisy, and Rosie, were in the house and were removed from the by the fire fighters. We had brought them in to get looked at by CPVets, in order to insure they were okay.
Daisy, who has adrenal and insulinoma, suffered a lot of stress and some wheezing. Wally, who has insulinoma, was dehydrated. Rosie has a scratch on her stomach from getting caught somewhere.
The interior of the house has plenty of damage. The room that the fire had started in had been my study room and it was completely destroyed. The house had gotten so hot, plastics and clothes burnt up from the intensity. The entirety of the house has smoke and soot damage, in which a lot of our furniture is unsalvageable. We lost all of our kitchen, and may have to replace the kitchen appliances. The water damage from the fire being extinguished has damaged half the first floor, some of the basement, and the furnace is filled with water.
From our first talk with the restoration company, our house is going to be stripped to the subflooring and studs. We are going to be out of the home for 6 months as they remodel it.
Our clothes and electronics will take about two weeks before we get them. The ferrets lost all their toys and cages.
Funds will be used to buy clothing while we wait for the cleanings to be completed. We are in need of food since we are currently in a hotel and only have a microwave while we wait for temporary housing. We currently do not know what temporary housing entails, and we aren't sure what we will have. As well, the ferrets are in need of some enrichment, such as toys, in their environment because they are pretty depressed.
