Our mom is notorious for thinking and taking care of others first, before herself. Now it is time for us, her two daughters, to return the favor as best as we can. She is and will always be our guiding light. First, let me back it up to where this journey really started. Our dad had been working in Iraq since I started high school, with only a few weeks home every 3 to 4 months. January of 2012 he quit that job in order to be closer to home.
On July 3, 2012, our mom broke the news to us that our dad left her and had been having an affair since February. Divorce was the answer and it has not been easy to say the least. We all thought this was rock bottom for our mom and there was only good to come. Little did we know this was only a battle to prepare and strengthen her for the real war. She had one year left at North Carolina State University studying her passion in life, horticulture. Unfortunately, the divorce was too emotionally and financially straining for her to continue.
Fast forward to February 5th 2013, our parents wedding anniversary, our mom went in to get her biopsy results from her emergency biopsy the Friday before. The big C. Yes, breast cancer, as if our mother has not had enough on her plate. Her last Mammogram, before the one she got in late January, was April 2012 and came back completely normal with no sign of cancer. That means in 10 months she developed Stage IIB, Grade 3 (Aggressive), breast cancer. This stuff means business. It usually takes years for cancer to get to that point. Now that her surgery is done, she will need to go through a rigid schedule of chemotherapy and radiation afterwards. Not only does this add emotional strain, but medical treatment for cancer is not cheap. We wanted to start this fund to help out with any medical expenses we could. Any donation would make the world of difference.We are ready to not only fight this battle, but kick its ass and save second base.
